I have a love / hate relationship with chicken wire. I love designing with it in vases because 1. you can create some really great shapes, which can create great movement and 2. I hate floral foam so it's a great substitute when designing "foam free." the downside of chicken wire is it has the ability to scratch the $h!t out of you. I've poked and scratched myself so many times and it's very painful. it never gets easier the more times it happens. despite this fact, the pros outweigh the cons by a lot so I will continue my love / hate relationship with chicken wire.
which brings us to this post. today as I was scrolling on IG, I learned a fun new trick to try when creating bouquets (specifically bridal bouquets). when I saw the post (I can't remember whose it was, sorry) I immediately googled said trick and found a couple videos on it that blew my mind --> this was one of them from Floral Design Institute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKsdhTMiP7I
(this is probably old news to everyone, but not to me so just bear with me) I learned today that you can create an egg shape out of chicken wire that becomes the base of your bouquet (see picture below), which will essentially make it easier to create fun shapes and movement just like when designing in a vase.

after I saw this I knew I had to try it for myself. I had some left over babies breath and greens from a project I am working on (you will find out more about this project beginning of next week) and a ton of dried flowers so I thought why not give it a try. side note: I particularly love designing when it's not for anyone in particular because I find my perfectionist side tones down a bit and I am a lot more free with my creations. don't get me wrong, I LOVE designing for people but I find when it's not for someone I can get more creative and try new things. makes sense.
anyways... I really enjoyed this trick / technique (whatever you wanna call it) and I'm pretty happy with what I came up with. I'm V excited to try this out with my sisters wedding bouquet in a month. below are some pics. thank you for coming on this journey with me even if you already knew about this years ago and I'm late to the party 🎉 🥳
until next time xo
